Lost Elegance
I love history, art and fashion. The ladies and gentleman's periodicals from from the 1700's and 1800's are my absolute favourite. My family owns large antique collection containing such publications. It rivals the collections of such prestigious institutions as the Metropolitan and Smithsonian museums. I hope to have it uploaded for viewing one day soon. The cards I offer for sale are recreated using the coloured engravings contained in those books. Each Image is carefully scanned in order to be cataloged, Few of us know that the original engravings, called fashion plates, were hand coloured for each and every copy of the magazine. Many such plates are destroyed every day when they are cut and framed. I wish to offer a quality alternative to our desire for antique prints in order to preserve as many as I can. We use the proceeds from our sales to create an archive of such fashion plates. I admire the Elegance-both of the homes and dresses of the times long gone, and wish to bring a little bit of it back to our busy, often stripped of glamour lives.
