Magasin des Demoiselles – Volume 5 (the 5th year of publication) – covering from October 1848 until September 1849. – This is the typical run for this fashion periodical – all of their subscriptions from this period ran from October until September
Language – French
Lovely book which appear to be complete – containing all of the coloured and black and white engravings – 13 fashion engravings and 1 black and white. I have not notices any text pages missing.
Binding – half calf green leather with green paper boards (floral) The hinges are worn and rubbed, but still holding securely. The binding is a bit loose with some coloured plates being detached.
Again – the book is from the early years of this periodical – complete with all the plates – one fashion plate was issued typically every month with extra plates showcasing accessories. In this case the extra accessory plates were issued in December and April – both showcasing lovely children’s clothing.
We own large collection of ladies periodicals from the 18th and 19th century. On occasion as we upgrade the volumes we own, we put others for sale.In our auctions we have mentioned before, that such publications have become scarcer and increasingly more valuable due to the constant destruction of these books. The beautiful hand coloured or chromolithograph prints inside are removed for framing, and immediately destroyed by sunlight regardless how protective the glass is. We advocate conservation and preservation. Please respect the books and you will be rewarded with higher financial return in the future.
If you would like to frame such images consider a reproduction. We offer high quality reproductions from nearly 5000 fashion, and just as many flower engravings, all part of our own collection. Just drop us a line and we can find and reproduce almost any fashion print for you. We have done custom collections for many customers for their decor needs.
