Victorians loved costume parties. You can find costume suggestions in every fashion publication from this period – from kids to grown up parties, they had it all. I love the way they will often re-imagine foreign and fairy tale outfits through the prism of the current fashion style. Innocent and romantic when you look at them today.
This is one of several Victorian engravings which came to our repository from France. The original water colours are still bright and brilliant, but the paper has foxed due to exposure to damp air over the years. I usually digitally restore the images before they are turned into cards and decor prints, but the foxing on this one seemed very beautiful and suitable for the occasion. I decided to leave it on the print. If you find it attractive as well, please give this print a chance. All proceeds are used for our conservation efforts and preservation efforts.Recreated from an original first published for ” Les Modes Parisienne” in the 1850’s.
We strive to preserve the original look and feel of the engravings that we use for our products.
