The Historiae survived in 123 codices, or bound manuscripts, all deriving from an original in the 9th century. As it was a partial text, already missing large pieces, they are partial as well. The original contained 10 books equivalent to our chapters. Book I and II are missing, along with any introduction that might have been excepted according to ancient custom.
The work enjoyed popularity in the High Middle Ages. Slow but steady stream of editions appeared since the first printed one in 1470. This particular edition is from 1658.
